Mack Buckmier

I am excited to return for my fourth year of teaching Agricultural Education at Hettinger High School. In addition to my teaching role, I proudly serve as the advisor for the Hettinger FFA Chapter. It’s a privilege to continue working with such dedicated students and to help cultivate their passion for agriculture, leadership, and hands-on learning.

My educational philosophy revolves around the idea of constructivism – that students may construct a usable understanding of the world by building upon their existing knowledge and reflecting upon their interactions with the environment around them. I find the valuable experiences in agriculture to be an excellent tool in facilitating opportunities for growth in students.

While my path to education was non-traditional (I have worked on my family ranch, the family excavating business, and even put a few years in as a substitute driver for the United States Postal Service), I have enjoyed nearly every moment of it. Along with my work at HPS, I work with my wife raising cattle and growing annual forages for hay while enjoying every moment I get to spend with my daughter.

Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.
